Headgreenkeeper from the Euro-BBW
Last week, our gardening and landscaping department went on a special kind of excursion: they traveled to the golf course at Golf-Club Eifel in Hillesheim, where they were introduced to the work of a greenkeeper by our former apprentice Mark.
As head greenkeeper, Mark has been in charge of the green areas on the golf course since January and explained the maintenance, management and care of the lawns to our group during a three-hour tour. The tasks of a greenkeeper include not only sowing, mowing different turf heights (see photos) and vertical cultivation, but also the selection of the right grasses, their fertilization and the rules of the game. In golf, for example, setting the flags requires a high degree of experience, as the position of the flags influences the difficulty of the golf course. He also needs to be familiar with various machines and their maintenance.
Mark graduated from Euro-BBW in 2013 as a gardener specializing in horticulture and landscaping and later completed further training to become a greenkeeper. His team consists of six employees and four temporary staff. Some of our trainers and teachers knew him from before and were very impressed by his professional career.
It was a great experience for the whole group and we would like to thank Mark for his time and for the wonderful day!
